Domestic violence is also known as intimate partner violence and is a cycle of control and power characterized by a pattern of coercive behaviors that may include repeated battering and injury, psychological abuse, sexual assault, progressive social isolation, deprivation, and/or intimidation. Attempts to scare, isolate or control are also forms of abuse which can affect physical and emotional well-being and are frequently an indication that physical abuse may follow.
